Caproni CA100 "Caproncino" - Wooden RC Model Aircraft Kit

The Caproni CA100, affectionately nicknamed Caproncino (Little Caproni), is a training and touring biplane designed in Italy based on the De Havilland D.H. 60, with some modifications typical of the Caproni tradition: the wingspan of the lower wing was increased compared to the upper one, and the geometry of the tail surfaces was slightly revised. The prototype first flew towards the end of 1928, and series production began in 1929. Several models were produced, differing mainly in their engines. Produced in large quantities, it was used in both civil and military contexts for initial pilot training and in Aeroclubs throughout Italy. Equipped with floats, it also flew successfully as a seaplane.

Today, two original flying examples survive, regularly flown: one with landing gear and the other with floats.

🔨 Construction Features

Faithful to the original: The model faithfully reproduces the Caproncino at 1/10 scale, entirely made of wood like the original aircraft. The wings are ribbed with a plano-convex profile, docile and easy to build.

Birch-covered fuselage: As on the original, the fuselage is covered with 0.5 mm birch plywood, which ensures high structural stability while keeping weight to a minimum.

Quick field assembly: The wings slot onto 5 mm carbon spars and are held in place by magnets, for quick, tool-free assembly. The wing struts, permanently screwed to the lower wing, simply attach to the upper wing.

Easy battery access: The upper part of the engine cowling is removable and secured by magnets and pins, for quick and convenient battery access.

Flight behavior: Thanks to the large wing area and low wing loading, the Caproncino flies docilely even at low speed. The ailerons, present only on the lower wing but generously sized, ensure excellent maneuverability on all three axes. Note: despite good flight characteristics, the model is not intended for beginners — some experience with three-axis models is required to fly it.

  • Two 1:1 scale construction drawings, color printed (fuselage with sections and formers + wings with ribs)
  • High-quality woods, specifically selected according to their intended use to ensure the best balance between stability and weight: thin birch plywood, poplar plywood, balsa plywood, balsa wood, as well as various spruce, kiri, beech, and balsa strips
  • 5 mm carbon spars for wing attachment
  • Magnets and pins for cowling and wing attachment

To complete the model, the following must be purchased separately:

  • Adhesive: Wood glue and/or cyanoacrylate
  • Paints and lightweight covering material
  • Brushless motor: 60–100W, 1000KV
  • ESC controller: Compatible with the chosen motor
  • LiPo battery: 2S or 3S, 800–1000 mAh
  • RC radio system: Receiver + transmitter (minimum 4 channels)
  • Servos: For rudder, elevator, and ailerons
